STATEMENT ON AI

To be brief, fuck AI. The work is the point. If you'd like my expanded perspective, read below.

I do not use and refuse to use generative artificial intelligence when developing, writing, and editing a new play. I am firmly anti-AI generative technologies period (including language learning models like ChatGPT), and especially when it is in regard to the theatre.

Additionally, I am staunchly against theatre and production companies utilizing generative AI during the production and design process (including print and online advertisements) of all of my works. This includes scenic, sound/music, projection, costume, lighting, prop, and marketing design.

The use of generative AI is not only harmful to our fellow creatives in the theatre industry, it harms communities near data centers, increases economic inequality, causes irreversible pollution, depletes cognitive function, spreads misinformation, holds discriminatory bias against intentionally marginalized groups, produces CSAM at disgusting and alarming rates, and violates the privacy of innocent people.

Using generative AI or any language learning model to "enhance" or "design" a production of my scripts (or to alter my photographs) will result in production rights being rescinded (and a cease and desist letter),  absolutely no exceptions. Refusing to adhere to these directives is in direct violation of copyright and violates my consent as the artist. (And in terms of photographs I take, it violates the consent and privacy of all other artists involved, including the designers, performers, and subjects.)

Consult your local community for artistic and technical resources to stage your own productions without the use of AI. If you are in need of further resources, I invite you to reach out.

AI sucks. And I know you're better than it is.
